INSIDE: THE VEGAN TEAHOUSE

The Vegan Teahouse began in 2012 as a single handed operation, founded by the incredibly amazing – Kate Jones. We recently blogged about her incredible vegan treats here and now we are thrilled to be sharing a behind-the-scenes look at The Vegan Teahouse – where all the magic happens.

Talk us through a regular day at The Vegan Teahouse HQ:

Days can be pretty varied, but a general baking day looks like this – up early for puppy walks and coffee, drive to the kitchen, light some incense and ground myself before getting started, then bake up a storm! I

I usually make brownies & fudge on Tuesdays and banana bread on Wednesdays. Sometimes I switch it up to keep myself on my toes, but I mostly stick to the regular schedule. When things are in the oven I clean, do the washing up, prepare for the next batch, make tea etc. I also stop for lunch as well as tea during the day to keep my going. Oh and admin. I do admin. Ugh!

How do you keep yourself motivated?

I have music playing, have a little sing & dance during the day. If I’ve hit a wall and can’t continue I allow myself to stop and chill on the couch; being gentle with myself, and taking rest breaks is crucial for my mental health and motivation. Also reflecting on where TVT is and where I’d like it to be is also super motivating.

What’s the best part about being your own boss?

I get to set my own hours, do my own thing & call the shots! Being the go-to-guy can also get overwhelming, but it’s definitely worth the slog.

Advice for solo business owners?

Be open, gentle, know that you’re amazing and achieving something super cool, don’t get bogged down with all of the things you have to do – try and take it one day at a time (or one hour at a time). Delegate tasks, ask for help, listen, listen, listen. Take breaks, eat meals and drink lots of water, be confident!

Create community! I didn’t anticipate being surrounded by a community of fierce, women business owners when I started TVT but it has honestly become one of the most rewarding and important parts of my life. These women encourage, support and love me & it’s wonderful to know that I’m not alone in this.
